Details: Responsible for promoting the parent’s role as their child’s first teacher. Responsible for building a relationship with parents to enhance the development of infants and toddlers. Assists parents in establishing strength based goals and written plans. Facilitates use of resources and serves as a source of support. Collaborates with other agencies. Facilitate the transition into Head Start or Early Childhood program. This position may perform regular duties at alternative sites with permission from the Program Director. POSITION REQUIREMENTS:Knowledge, Skills and Characteristics:• Supportive of MICA’s mission, strategic plan and programs• Committed to the concept of helping children and parents develop and thrive• Experience working with children ages 0-5• Knowledge of early childhood development, especially infant and toddler development • Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards and all other program requirements • Maintain confidentiality • Knowledge of child growth and development• Able to communicate effectively verbally with children and adults• Proficiency reading, writing and speaking the English language• Good listening skills• Effective organizational skills• Non-judgmental • Nurturing• Knowledge and skills in adult teaching strategies• Able to develop positive relationships with others• Able to deal with a variety of situations with families such as substance abuse, domestic abuse, custody battles, child abuse, mental health, suicide, and home environmental issues• Able to work as part of a positively and effectively functioning work team• Knowledge of community resources• Excellent observation skills• Able to work independently• Able to work a flexible schedule• General computer skills • Able to use a video and still camera during home visits• Knowledge of health standards for pregnant women and children 0-3 years old• Committed to obtaining new knowledge and skills to provide excellent services• Policy Council approval Duties/Responsibilities:• Conduct weekly home visits with children on caseload and their families• Develop Professional Development Plan• Plan and facilitate 2 socialization opportunities per month, 24 per year• Conduct hearing, vision, developmental, social-emotional, and language screenings with children to meet compliance• Provide services to children with disabilities• Facilitate or attend parent involvement activities(such as Policy Council, county family activities, etc…) as required • Produce and maintain documentation by deadlines to meet compliance with EHS program’s policies and procedures• Assures compliance with all Head Start Performance Standards and other program requirements. • Use chosen curriculum and quality supplemental materials when providing services• Participate positively as a team member. • Assist with county office and county team duties as needed• Develop skills and knowledge related to position.• Stay current on agency and program communication and new procedures. • Clear criminal records abuse background check. No child abuse in background. • Complete and maintain all required trainings and certifications. • Obtain a current First Aid Card and bi-annually thereafter.• Obtain current CPR Certification and bi-annually thereafter.• Other duties as assigned by supervisor and program leadership. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical:• Must have a pre-employment physical examination, and every two years thereafter, to prove ability to perform work duties. • Must provide results of a negative TB screen before beginning employment and every 3 years thereafter.• Must complete an annual TB screening Survey.• The person in this position must do home visits at the homes of families served by MICA Family Development programs. Must be able to function well in a variety of physical environments, and must be able to navigate stairs in order to access some family homes.• The person in this position frequently communicates with participants and colleagues, both one-on-one and in larger groups, regarding agency programs. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.• Frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a copy machine and a computer printer.• The person in this position must be able to frequently travel about the MICA service area to do family home visits or to attend or facilitate meetings. Responsible for own transportation in these situations. • Must be able to travel with a laptop and files which may weigh up to 20 pounds.
